Kastelruth is also known as Castelrotto in Italy and consists of a total of 11 fractions, among which is Seis, as well as a number of smaller municipalities.

It is situated high above the Eisack Valley between the Val Gardena and the Tiers Valley, embedded in the heart of the Dolomites. The village is characterized by its typical medieval townscape and the stately, old mansion houses in the village center testify that rich gentlemen resided here. The name Kastelruth refers to a former castle or fortress, but only a few remains can be found in the chapel of St. Anthony on the Kofel.
