The village is located at the dead end of Pitztal (the Pitz Valley) and is a mountain jewel at an altitude of 1,640 m. The river Pitze, which gave the whole valley its name, flows through the municipality, ripples through the valley basin and finally flows into the Inn. The Pitztal itself is a side valley of the Inntal (Inn Valley) and winds between the mighty peaks of the Kaunergrat in the west and the Geigenkamm in the east towards the south. Mandarfen im Pitztal is part of the natural park Kaunergrat, a nature park with protected areas.

Summer activities

In summer Mandarfen is an Eldorado for mountain hikers and mountaineers. Countless tours, for example to the Wildspitze, Tyrols highest glacier with 3,774 m and further up into the Pitztal Glacier World are very popular among advanced hikers.

The rear Pitztal with the Riffelsee enjoys an excellent reputation among alpinists.

The ski slopes on the Rifflsee and the Grubkopf (2.800 m) as well as the Pitztal Glacier (3.440 m), which is only a stone’s throw away, are part of the Mandarfen ski area. The cable car directly in the village takes you to the Sunna Alm at 2,300 m altitude and further to the Grubenkopf (2,800 m). The Rifflsee ski area does not only have about 20 km of slopes, but also offers a fantastic cross-country ski run for cross-country skiing. In order to be able to experience other places in the Pitztal, there are ski buses available. In Tyrol’s highest glacier region, the Pitztal Glacier, you can enjoy additional 20 km of slopes.
