Our transfer Innsbruck Ischgl takes you to one of the most popular skiing resorts in Tyrol. But before we arrive there, get some interesting info about its development.
Ischgl, as we know it today, was about 1,000 years ago, the mountain village Yscia which is the ancient Rhaetian word for „island“. Initially, it was settled by the Councils novels from the Engadine (Switzerland) and in 1300 by the Welsh.
A navigable link northward the Oberinntal in Tyrol did not exist, so the Ischgl was economically more connected to the Engadin and trading business with the Vinschgau, Swabians and Bavarians. There was a privilege issued by Archduke Sigmund in 1460 which allowed Ischgl a duty free export of cattle and the import of grain. But during the 17th century the trade decreased because the Engadin became independent from Tyrol. After the mid-18th century the Jamtaler glacier increases so far that the road was no longer passable by pack animals with the result that the trade came to a standstill. During the following years a large exodus took place. By the drop in trade, the population could hardly be nourished.
Arround 1882 Austrian and German Alpine clubs started to build several protection and shelter houses within the region of Ischlg’s mountain ranges which attracted climbers as well as skiers. The consequence was a rapid changing of the former farming village with a growing number of accommodation providers and hotels.
Ischgl is best known for its ski area „Silvretta Arena“, which connects the village with the Swiss Samnaun. With its 238 km of piste and 45 lifts it is one of the largest and at the same time one of the snowiest ski resorts in the Alps. The winter season already begins in late November and ends in early May.
You intend to bring your skis along on your transfer Innsbruck Ischgl? No problem – no extra charges.
All lifts are operated by Silvrettaseilbahn AG. The company was founded in October 1961. Construction of the first Ischgl gondola was realized from 1963 to 1964. In December 1963 Ischlg proudly opened the longest cable car in Austria.
Today three high-tech lifts enable the connection with its fabulous skiing resorts:
The maximum number of people that can be transported is 93,000 per hour.
The season opening and the end of the season are regularly celebrated with major pop concerts in Ischgl and on the Idalp at the ski resort. International renowned stars of the music industry have rocked the Top of Mountain Concerts stage.
